Workshops and discussions!

Our workshop "Disability within the moving image" is both a theory and practically based workshop dealing with how we have counter-balanced the way in which people see disability in moving images.

This workshop is split into two parts. The first section deals with the theory of disability in film, Maggie Dog style! We have collected some clips and images in which mainstream filmmakers have used disabled characters to communicate plotpoints and stories. We look at stereotypes in classic films such as "Edward Scissorhands" and discuss how we have studied these images in order to manipulate and strengthen our own ideas. We also look at films like "I am Sam" and "The station agent" to take a detailed look at how mainstream filmmakers are now using people with real physical and learning disabilities in their productions. How does this benifit the filmmaker?

The second part of this workshop is part role-play part discussion and concerns our own experiences in film and television.
